Keukenhof is one of the world’s largest flower garden. There are seven million flowers planted in the park once a year (according to official website of Keukenhof park) which made it to be one of the largest flower garden.

Keukenhof is located precisely in South Holland, among the city Hillegom and Lisse, south of Haarlem and southwest of Amsterdam. And can be reached by bus from the bus station Haarlem or Leiden. The park is located in the area called Duin en Bollenstreek.

The garden was created in 1949 by candidates for mayor of Lisse, which is a small town near Amsterdam. Namely to create an exhibition of flower to flower growers around the Netherlands and Europe could show off flowers that would help the Netherlands as the world’s largest flower exporter. Within 50 years Keukenhof has become a world’s largest flower garden.

Keukenhof is opened once a year in the last week of March to mid May. The best time to view the tulips is mid-April, depending on the weather.

We often need a way to break the monotony of existence. Usually in some form of relaxation. For some reason, I’ve always chosen weekends hotel breaks as my way to get away from everything. Either that, or I have always gone trekking round Europe or Asia on buses and rail. So I’m used to sleeping in last minute dorms and hostels and that’s when I thought, what if I have my own tour bus to hike around in? Better still, what if I have my own caravan?

Firstly, the thought of living permanently in a caravan is gross and actually scares me, but the thought of being able to tour the country of my birth in a fantastic vehicle in which I can sleep actually sounds pretty fantastic. And so… I decided to check it out and apparently, this country is littered with touring caravan sites for the nation’s use. And they’re all listed on The Caravan Club website which is where I discovered the caravanning community. I feel silly for not having thought of his before, and even sillier to have been practically all over the world but have such limited experience of the country I was born in. My dad’s seen more of this country than I have and he wasn’t even born here! And the great thing about this caravan club website is that you can explore all the touring caravan sites in the country and really get a kick start on planning your caravan holiday with their expert advice. I’m looking forward to the summer. How about you?
